Glimpses

Anyone who has dreamed of a fairyland as a child knows what I'm talking about when I speak of sights so beautiful that they take your breath away.

There was a time when I believed I had to go searching for these sights in far away and exotic places, but more and more I am realizing they are all around me.

A simple walk around the block, or a local park, or even a look out my window can become a magical moment when some glancing view comes into my vision. Often it comes so unexpectedly that it catches me off guard and it can last such an infintessimal moment that I could easily miss it.

The trick is to be aware, to notice things, to live in the moment so that when these tiny glimpses of the grandeur of the world appear they are not lost.

I often find myself trying to capture them with a camera, but they seldom translate into anything so permanent.   It is as if they were not meant for anyone else's eyes if that mortal is not there when they peek through.

Call them gifts or miracles, or glancing moments, but to me they are a glimpse into the heart of God reminding me that everything is okay, or better than okay and that I am supposed to be aware and proactive and as open minded and kind as I know how, because there is so much more to living than I will ever know.
