The anomaly

 

Once in a while a family really does have an ugly duckling.  A child like none of the others.

It may not grow up to be a swan though. It might become a serial killer, or a prodigy, or just an artist of some kind. It may even become an addict if all else fails, soothing itself with drugs or food or hedonistic behavior.

This child will have all the skills of the others, but with a greater intensity. It could also be extremely sensitive to everything from temperature, to foods and textures, even medicines.

It will be a difficult child to raise and the mother may be disappointed that the beautiful perfect angel she gave birth to turned out to be something she could never understand.

No one ever said these children would turn out successful, or otherwise. Nurturing goes a long way in developing a child's character. So does conflict.

But basic personality is strong! They know they are different and they either embrace it or try to hide it.

They are the anomaly.
