Buying things seems to be the favorite sport of many people. They enjoy the hunt or the feeling that they just got a great deal.
I love what I call window shopping. I like to look on my computer at things that are unique, beautiful, or just cute. I love looking at other people's houses and the way businesses decorate. I just don't buy all the things I see.
Buying requires that I love it! Not like it, or think it is a good deal, but love it! That usually requires me going back to look at it several times or more.
Another requirement for me is if I can use it in more than one way or in more than one place. There is a call for those one of a kind things that can only enhance one particular place, but then it needs to be adored, not just loved.
Life is long and the ability to collect things can leave people burdened with stuff they have no place to store or use. I don't put these things in the basement. I am not running a second hand store, or boutique for unloved stuff. If you love it that much find it a good home, or use it, but don't store it.
The exception may be holiday decorations that only come out once a year.
If you only buy what you dearly love it will still feel good to have around for years and years to come. Nothing lasts like quality and good design. It will usually fit into your preferences for style and color too. You may move it from room to room, but you will always want it around.
Favorite colors and particular styles may vary over the years, but if you look closely you will notice that many of your favorite things coordinate with those things you have always loved. This is the key to who you are.
Embrace it!
