Everyone talks about goals and goal setting as if the right carrot will solve all our problems and it might!
Or it might not.
As a young woman I was expected to make myself trim, slim, beautiful and perfect wife material. Then I was supposed to be the perfect mother raising well rounded children.
Later I was encouraged to walk some abysmal number of steps measured by a deceivingly small rubber bracelet attached to my wrist. Get fit they said!
I loved playing tennis, but most other athletic activity bored me to tears, so when I couldn't play tennis anymore I tended to stop worrying about being fit.
Now I have discovered the absolute carrot. The goal to beat all other goals.
Staying alive.
At my age I have to balance failing muscles, an immune system that hates me, lousy feet and a digestive system that views iron supplements as necessary as air. My kidneys are at stage four, one step before dialysis. I am anemic no matter what. My heart murmur is hanging in there and all my allergies to the world and most medicines crop up like mosquitoes on a stagnant pond.
I eat almost the same nothings day after day. Walk my tiny fifteen minutes walks. Try for a good night's sleep and try to perfect the balancing act that is required to give my life quality,
My goal? Keep on living!
